Internships

University Press of Mississippi offers internships in its Editorial and Marketing departments. These positions allow students to learn about both scholarly and trade book publishing and gain valuable on-the-job experience. Numerous Press interns have gone on to secure jobs at top publishing houses and with magazine publishers.

All internships are offered during the fall, spring, and summer semesters, with the following deadlines for application:

Fall: July 30

Spring: November 10

Summer: April 10

Editorial Internship

Editorial Interns assist the Editorial Department with such tasks as proofreading catalog materials, formatting and copyediting manuscripts, reviewing page proof corrections, and editing and proofreading indexes.

Editorial Interns should be available to work 8 to 15 hours per week (between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.).

This is an unpaid position. We are happy to work with student interns so that they receive college credit.

McRae Publishing Internship

The McRae Publishing Intern primarily assists the Editorial Department, specifically the acquisitions team, with such tasks as finding readers for manuscripts; preparing presentations for our editorial board; maintaining and updating database records; sending endorsement requests, fundraising letters, and letters of interest or rejection; conference scheduling; copying, filing, and mailing; and more

Summer interns should expect to work 40 hours per week for three months. Fall and spring interns should expect to work a minimum of 25 hours per week with a preference for more hours if possible.

This internship comes with a monthly stipend of approximately $500 per month, depending upon hours worked.
